چکیده

The angular power spectrum of the cosmic microwave background ~CMB! contains information on virtually all cosmological parameters of interest, including the geometry of the Universe (V), the baryon density, the Hubble constant (h), the cosmological constant (L), the number of light neutrinos, the ionization history, and the amplitudes and spectral indices of the primordial scalar and tensor perturbation spectra. We review the imprint of each parameter on the CMB. Assuming only that the primordial perturbations were adiabatic, we use a covariance-matrix approach to estimate the precision with which these parameters can be determined by a CMB temperature map as a function of the fraction of sky mapped, the level of pixel noise, and the angular resolution. For example, with no prior information about any of the cosmological parameters, a full-sky CMB map with 0.5° angular resolution and a noise level of 15 mK per pixel can determine V , h , and L with standard errors of 60.1 or better, and provide determinations of other parameters which are inaccessible with traditional observations. Smaller beam sizes or prior information on some of the other parameters from other observations improves the sensitivity. The dependence on the underlying cosmological model is discussed. @S0556-2821~96!02014-0#

Efficient Cosmological Parameter Estimation from Microwave Background Anisotropies

We revisit the issue of cosmological parameter estimation in light of current and upcoming highprecision measurements of the cosmic microwave background power spectrum. Physical quantities which determine the power spectrum are reviewed, and their connection to familiar cosmological parameters is explicated. We present a set of physical parameters, analytic functions of the usual cosmological p...

Mutual Constraints Between Reionization Models and Parameter Extraction From Cosmic Microwave Background Data

Spectroscopic studies of high-redshift objects combined with increasingly precise data on the cosmic microwave background (CMB) are beginning to place strong bounds on the epoch of hydrogen reionization. Parameter estimation from current CMB data continues, however, to be subject to several degeneracies. Here, we focus on those degeneracies in CMB parameter forecasts related to the optical dept...

Neural Networks as a tool for parameter estimation in mega-pixel data sets

We present a neural net algorithm for parameter estimation in the context of large cosmological data sets. Cosmological data sets present a particular challenge to pattern-recognition algorithms since the input patterns (galaxy redshift surveys, maps of cosmic microwave background anisotropy) are not fixed templates overlaid with random noise, but rather are random realizations whose informatio...

We analyze the astronomical data on the explosions of supernovae Ia as well as the precision measurement of cosmic microwave background in order to get a model-independent determination of the acceleration parameter for the Universe evolution. The effective parameter of state in the cosmological equations, which gives the ratio of pressure to the energy density, as shown, can naturally get the ...

The Case for Ω M = 0.33 ± 0.035

For decades, the determination of the mean density of matter (ΩM ) has been tied to the distribution of light. This has led to a “bias,” perhaps as large as a factor of 2, in determining a key cosmological parameter. Recent measurements of the physical properties of clusters, cosmic microwave background (CMB) anisotropy and the power spectrum of mass inhomogeneity now allow a determination of Ω...
